Travelling solo can be intimidating, frustrating and downright scary! But don’t let that stop you because the positives outweigh the negatives when it comes to traveling alone.

Here are some ways to travel alone and truly enjoy your time away:

Be prepared. There’s nothing worse than not knowing what to expect when going to a new country, plus you don’t want to be spending half your day trying to figure out how to get from one place to another - especially if you are only gone for a short amount of time.

  1. Research your points of interest in advance, download the free App maps.me so you can download a map of the area you are in when you have wifi and then use it when you don’t. Drop a pin where you are staying and where you want to go to find the best routes.

  2. If there’s a certain landmark you absolutely want to see and would be disappointed if you didn’t, then buy a ticket in advance with a start time. Don’t waste time waiting in lines if you don’t have too!

  3. Pre book your first few nights of accommodations, read reviews & stay centrally located. You’re more likely to meet other travelers this way.

  4. Hostelz.com is a great resource if you’re wanting to travel cheap

  5. Rome2rio.com is an incredible website to give every option on how to get from point A to point B by plane, train, bus, car or ferry!

  6. Leave your itinerary and a copy of your passport with someone you know at home, you never know when that will come in handy.

  7. Invest in a GoPro or a selfie stick - Yes, I know… they look ridiculous haha buuuut if you have no shame like me and want to get great shots of yourself without asking other people to take your pictures then it’s worth every penny! Otherwise, don’t be shy to ask strangers to take pics of you and just let them know to take a few different shots while you’re standing there.

Travel with a group.

This may sound rigid and like something that won’t give you any freedom but that’s NOT TRUE. If you’re on the right group tour that suits your travel style you will meet some life long friends and explore some incredible places that you may not have seen on your own. You can always book 5-7 days with a group and then travel on your own after - many people do this and sometimes you even make plans together for when the tour is done.

HAVE FUN.
