Staying in an Overwater Bungalow in the Maldives

Updated: Feb 10

The Maldives Islands.... you’ve heard it before...

Breathtaking

Gorgeous

Exotic

Beautiful...

Because it is!!

It’s incredible to see one building taking up an entire island and if traveling all the way to the middle of the Indian Ocean you have to spoil yourself at one of these resorts. It took countless hours of research to look into all of the options available for resorts in the Maldives. With over 130 to choose from spread out over 1000 islands I wanted to make sure we found the right one & we did!

Hurawalhi Island Resort seemed to tick off all of our boxes.

After a 40min seaplane from Male’s Velana International airport you land in Lhaviyani Atoll at the neighboring island of Kuredo and wait for an arrival jetty to take you to Hurawalhi. As you pull up to Hurawalhi you start to hear the beating of drums from the crew at the end of the dock, as if they’re welcoming you home.

This private island surrounded by a gorgeous lagoon is about 1300ft long (400 meters) by 550ft wide (165 meters) and filled with 90 villas including a mix of Sunset Ocean & Beach Villas. The villas are contemporary, private & beautifully laid out. It’s definitely a splurge to stay in the Maldives with starting prices at this resort of approx. $1000CAD/night (750USD) for a Beach Villa including breakfast all the way up to $1600CAD+/night (1190USD) for an Overwater Ocean Villa with a private pool and all inclusive food/drink service. Of course prices can range depending on time of year and promotions the property has on - feel free to contact me if interested in booking the best deals for this resort.

The resort has 3 restaurants including a buffet called Canneli open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Now this is no regular buffet! The setting is oceanfront, the decor is exquisite and the food… oh my, the food. Let’s just say that every morning you have a fresh juice bar, fresh breads & jams as well as unique stations to choose from; the omelettes were my favorite! We were honeymooning for 5 nights on this island after spending a week on a catamaran that we indulged at every meal. The dinner buffet even included a cheese wheel that they blow torched the cheese into your custom made pasta - yummmm!

A major highlight was the 5.8 Undersea Restaurant. On the property you have a stunning spiral staircase that takes you down 5.8 meters below sea level to experience a meal like never before. Surrounded by clear waters and fish floating by you this culinary experience is $300CAD ($225USD) per person for a 5 course lunch menu. We opted to go for lunch and were lucky to be one of three couples experiencing this place, it felt like we walked into our own underwater cave! The menu ranged from tuna to lobster or wagyu beef and every bite was a new sensation of flavours. Highly recommend this rare experience in one of the few underwater restaurants in the world!

With all holidays it’s up to you to choose how you want to spend it; you can be as lazy as you want or as busy with all the water activities they offer including; paddleboarding, kayaking, a sunset dolphin cruise, luxury sailing, deep sea fishing, scuba diving and more! The Spa setting was serene and truly enjoyable on a slightly rainy day.

This is not a paid ad for Hurawalhi, I enjoyed this resort so much that I want others to experience it too! For a 5 star luxury resort that offers privacy put this one high on the bucket list!
